Even if life comes to a halt, we push it saying ‘Sab Chalta hai’

We Indians are proud of inheriting habits from our forefathers. One such habit has been running through our genes from ages. And with each passing generation nobody could dampen our ardour of adorning the crown of –‘Sab Chalta hai’ attitude to grace the heads to be held high up in the society. Right from our birth, this is one thing that we have observed and absorbed.

People murmur, shout, console, and sympathise, all with just a phrase – ‘Sab Chalta hai’.

While rushing to the office many cool their anxiety by iterating ‘Sab Chalta hai. Even boss would be running late in such rains.’  This very phrase buzz in a zig zag zoom across a dead red light that has been witnessing such chaos every morning, since ages. On the same road, the pedestrian hops across the maze of cars, puddles and pot holes. Nobody cares to stop, question or change, because ‘Sab Chalta hai’ and that’s the easy way out.

Who cares if the electrician didn’t fix one of the 4 screws of a board because the board is anyways fixed in its high spirits. Who cares if there is a wire hanging down the street because I am short enough to reach it. Who cares if the public tap is dripping, after all it isn’t my personal property. Who cares to wear a seat belt when I am confident of driving safe. And who cares if I park my vehicle in the middle of a busy market place.

Nobody cares for a mere cold and fever, because the nearby pharmacy wale bhaiya is the most renowned all-rounder doctor, better any specialist in the field. Research proves that children below 2 years should not be exposed to any kind of screen or electronic device. But mommies believe that ’30-45 min in a day toh Chalta hai. We cannot abstain children from the technological and societal advancements. ‘

We teach our children not to throw garbage on the roads but when it comes to us, we condone ourselves and proclaim – 1 wafer packet on road toh Chalta hai. There are others too throwing their stuff out.

Mrs. X: My husband just doesn’t have time for me. He is either busy in office or glued to TV at home.

Mrs. Y : Chalta hai yar. Sabka yeh hi haal hai.

Majority of people are scared of the consequences of presenting opinionated views and others believe that who would waste the precious time (otherwise spent on a couch lazily) trying to bring about a change.

In my opinion the prevalence of the phrase ‘Chalta hai’ is attributed to people’s desire of being good and non-judgemental. They are afraid that they might not be accepted by a bunch of people for holding incompatible perspectives.

However, by not being assertive, we are just being incapable of standing up for the integrity, morality and nobility of the society which in turn is leading to the degeneration of our lives and society at large. But who cares for this silent killer??? After all, ‘Sab Chalta hai!’ (Hope you smelled the *Criticism* here)

Only when we break out of the cocoon of ‘Chalta hai’ attitude, we will be able to question the unacceptable and take a step towards being true to ourselves and the society.

Only when we question the 10-20 min delay, would people ever take an extra mile to be punctual the next time. Only when mothers shrug off the Chalta hai attitude, they would understand the criticality of no-screen for children. Only when you raise voice to discuss the differences in marriage, would you be able to sort out the issues and be happier. Only when we raise our voices assertively against no garbage on roads, we will move towards a cleaner India. Only when we break out of the cocoon of ‘Chalta hai’ attitude, we will be able to question the unacceptable and take a step towards being true to ourselves and the society.
